The Wedding Shop – Macy’s

Posted Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I was doing some online shopping yesterday when I came across a link for The Wedding Shop at Macy’s.  We refer brides all the time to Macy’s for their registries and for gifts, but I had no idea that part of their online shopping site was dedicated specifically to weddings. Well, I checked it out and came away impressed. The Wedding Shop at Macy’s offers a variety of products to complete your wedding day look, including bridal gowns.  Now, don’t expect to find a huge selection of gowns. What they offer are a small, yet tasteful selection of simple, beautiful gowns and dresses perfect for intimate and destination weddings. They also offer a number of options for bridal party attire, party dresses perfect for rehearsal dinners or after parties, suits for the groom and his groomsmen, cute flowergirl and ringbearer attire, shoes, and a nice selection of jewelry and accessories.  Here are a few of my personal favorites from The Wedding Shop:

Get Married on WeTV – New Episodes

Posted Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Season Three of Get Married’s popular planning show on WeTV continues with seven new episodes starting on Saturday, July 3rd at 9:30 AM EST.

Show host and Get Married founder Stacie Francombe, spends time with real brides as she guides them through an array of bridal experiences and participates in inspiring challenges with wedding professionals and experts.

The line-up of new episodes unveils the hottest wedding trends and shocking surprises including a customized father-daughter dance song written by singer-songwriter, Edwin McCain.

We are huge fans of the show which offers a balanced blend of trendy, practical, and creative ideas as well as timely advice and tips relevant to today’s modern brides.

The New York Bridal Market recently wrapped in April, and the designers did not disappoint with their Spring 2011 lines. Noted  trends and details we are loving include ruffles, asymmetrical one-shoulder designs, tiers, floral details and appliques, mini dresses, sculptural details, and lovely historically inspired styles. The new designs are predominantly strapless, but brides who prefer a gown with straps or sleeves have decidedly more options to choose from in the new collections.
Some of our favorite runway standouts include (all photos from www.marthastewart.com “From The Runway”):

Central Florida brides can find designs by Anne Barge and Rivini at Solutions Bridal Designer House located in the Shoppes of Millenia on Conroy Road.

We live in a society where you can customize just about anything.  In the wedding industry, custom options abound from stationery and designer gowns to menu selection and favors. Now, popular fashion and bridal shoe retailer Nina offers a customization option on the Nina shoes website where you can create your own wedding shoe designs.

The Design Your Own collection takes “your vision to your doorstep” by allowing you to select from a variety of  Nina’s most popular styles. You get to select your preferred heel height, colors for the upper, heel, and sole, as well as colors of any embellishments or accessories on the shoe.  There is a 16 color palette that you can select from which the designers at Nina will update regularly to represent the most desirable colors of the season. Concerned about making sure the shoes are a perfect match for your wedding day attire or that of your bridesmaids? Then order a swatchbook so you can be sure the shoes will match the dress.   Here is a pair I designed to complement the colors of an upcoming fall wedding we are planning for a special Uniquely Yours client.

I started with the Electra 4″ heel. The customization process could not have been simpler and shipping on orders over $100 is free within the contiguous 48 states. You can see more by going to the Nina website here.

The incredible team at Martha Stewart Weddings has added yet another fantastic tool to their website – Plan Your Wedding By Color. They have brought together a beautiful array of carefully selected images and organized them by color,  inspiring brides to plan and develop their wedding day design around a chosen color palette.  Plan Your Wedding by  Color is an easy to use interface found on the Martha Stewart Wedding website. Images have been organized by flowers, cakes, bridesmaid dresses, perfect palette combinations, decorations, and favors all accompanied by descriptive details and source information.  Need some help organizing your thoughts around your desired color palette?  Visit www.marthastewartweddings.com and find Color Palettes under the Inspiration tab.

Bring On Spring – Flowers In Your Hair

Posted Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

It has been so unseasonably cold here in Florida, and our thoughts turn often to the temperate days we usually enjoy in the spring that lead into our balmy beach filled summers.  We welcome the arrival of the real “Spring” but until then, I am admiring beautiful spring wedding accents like this gorgeous floral hair piece.  Isn’t it lovely?  It’s perfect for an outdoor garden wedding or for replacing your veil at a spring or summer reception.

At Uniquely Yours, we believe your wedding should be a reflection of you – your tastes, your sense of style, and your personalities.  Part of the fun in planning your wedding  will be infusing the details of the day with your own personal touches.  This week we bring you a series on products and resources you can use to personalize your wedding.

The cold weather we have been experiencing as of late has us dreaming of beautiful spring days that roll into the warm beautiful summers that Florida is famous for.  One of our favorite resources for spring and summer weddings is Pamela’s Parasols.  Pamela’s Parasols offers a variety of custom painted parasols perfect for your wedding.  Whether you are getting married on the beach or having a unique outdoor engagement/bridal shoot, you can find a color and style to match your personal wedding design.  The professionals at Pamela’s parasols can custom match your wedding colors, add a beautiful monogram, or  embellish your parasol with diamonds, feathers, or pearls.

They can even attach your favorite posies.  We think you will agree, a parasol can be that perfect extra something needed to complete your attire or that of your bridesmaids.

Note: This particular model has been discontinued, but more floral embellished styles are coming along with a veiled line.

Pamela’s also carries a line of parasols sized just for your flower girls or junior attendants.  Want to offer your guests a useful and beautiful memento from your wedding? Offering all the ladies attending your outdoor wedding a lovely parasol would be a most thoughtful gesture.

Oh black bridal shoes, how I love you.  Black wedding shoes you say?  Why, yes!  They are a must have for the “classic” bride and a definite fit for the bride who is all “rock-n-roll”.   What color are your wedding shoes and what do they say about you?

Upcoming Central Florida Trunk Shows

Posted Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Congratulations to all the newly engaged brides out there who were proposed to over the holidays!  Now begins the planning and the search for “the” dress.  Central Florida has a number of fine bridal salons you may visit in your quest to find the perfect dress.  Please remember,  the bridal salons do get quite busy, especially on the weekend, so definitely call to set an appointment ahead of time to ensure personalized attention and service.

Several of the salons have special trunk shows scheduled this month and into February.  A trunk show is a special event at the salon during which time either the designer, or representative of the designer, brings their newest line or features their current line at the salon.  There is nothing like getting to see a line for the first time and trying on new designs.  It is a also great time to learn more about the designer, the collection being featured, and ask specific questions about what alterations can be made to a design.  Sometimes the salon will offer additional specials during the showcase.  If you decide to attend a trunk show, again please be sure to make an appointment.  There can be limited appointments available at some shows, even more so if a particular designer is on site.  Here is a sampling of upcoming trunk shows in the Central Florida area.

The Wedding Party At The Breakers

Posted Thursday, January 21st, 2010

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of attending The Wedding Party at the Breakers in Palm Beach.  This outstanding show was created and produced by Claudia Hanlin and Jennifer Zabinski’s Wedding Library.

We headed down to Palm Beach with eager anticipation to hear and meet some of the finest wedding professionals in the business. The morning started with champagne and bellinis upon arrival. Guests were then ushered into the beautiful Ponce De Leon Ballroom to hear from top wedding experts Darcy Miller of Martha Stewart Weddings, Donna Newman of Donna Newman Photography, Sylvia Weinstock of Sylvia Weinstock Cakes, fashion designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka, and Kleinfeld Fashion Director Randy Fenoli.  Making your wedding uniquely personal was the theme that tied all of the presentations together. Documenting the day was none other than Abby Larson, creator of Style Me Pretty.

Sylvia Weinstock

Our favorite take aways included (and please forgive my amateur photography):

Darcy Miller – Find ways to make your wedding personal, thoughtful, and delicious.

Donna Newman -  It is better to have fewer hours in your photography package in order to have a better photographer who will take better pictures. You are not going to regret spending a little more on photography.

Mark Badgley and James Mischka – Your bridesmaids should feel like they are walking the red carpet. Their dresses should be fabulous, delicious – ones that they will want to wear again.

Darcy Miller Interviewing Mark Badgley & James Mischka

Randy Fenoli – Your dress should be all about you and what you want to convey.  Dimension and texture are going to be popular. Look for shredding, ruffles, and layers.  Finding the dress is like finding the groom; there is always going to be another groom so once you find IT – stop looking!

Randy Fenoli of Kleinfeld

Following the presentation, brides were welcomed to the Gulfstream Room for a VIP Luncheon featuring Breakers Master Sommelier, Virginia Philip.  At the same time, the showcases opened in the Venetian Ballroom.  There was so much wonderful wedding goodness to take in, we spent the entire allotted time visiting each of the booths. Really, we could have spent the entire day in there…

The day was capped off with a bridal fashion show sponsored by Kleinfeld and The Wedding Library Bridesmaids. The dresses were both stunning and unique…

What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Palm Beach!  We enjoyed every moment, made some wonderful industry connections, and came back with several fresh ideas to share with our clients.  Congrats goes out to the team at The Wedding Library for putting together this top notch event.
