Halloween is upon us and in the spirit of the holiday, we thought we would profile two of the most famous Halloween brides of the silver screen.
The Bride of Frankenstein
With her tall streaked hair and gothic glam makeup, this iconic bride has become one of the most recognizable monsters of old Hollywood. In “The Bride of Frankenstein”, sequel to the famous “Frankenstein” movie, we meet Dr. Septimus Pretorious who wants to collaborate with Henry Frankenstein on a mate for The Monster. When Henry refuses, Dr. Pretorius has the Monster kidnap Henry’s wife Elizabeth, thus forcing Henry to participate in the grand creation scheme. Upon removal of the bandages, Dr. Pretorius proclaims the creation “the bride of Frankenstein”. Sadly, the bride rejects the Monster, shrieking in terror upon seeing him.
The Corpse Bride
Tim Burton possesses one of the most original minds in Hollywood. He is known for his dark and eerily strange films – one of which was the Academy Award nominated “Corpse Bride”. According to the movie’s website, Corpse Bride is set in a 19th century European village, and follows the story of Victor. a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Surprisingly, life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, but Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It’s a story of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife.
